Pesticides - Cows Urine + Neem Solution (Method 2)

As part of our Agriculture for Everybody blog series,  we are going to see Cows Urine + Neem Solution (Method 2).


Required Ingredients

Method of Preparation
  1. Take 10 Litres of water in the mud pot.
  2. Immerse the Neem Leaves and ensure it is mixed well with the water.
  3. Cover the mouth of the mud pot and bury the mud pot in the soil for 21 days.
  4. Mix the contents of the mud pot and pour it into the copper pot.
  5. Boil the copper pot until the solution reduces to one fourth of the original contents.
  6. The final Cows Urine + Neem Solution is ready for use after this.
Method of Storage
  1. The pesticide should be kept in the shade and covered with a wire mesh or plastic mosquito net to prevent houseflies from laying eggs and the formation of maggots (worms) in the solution.  This is applicable during the preparation as well as during the shelf life of the pesticide as well.
How long can we store the Pesticide?
  1. N/A
How to use the Pesticide?
  1. Spray System - The pesticide can be applied as a foliar spray.
Note: Dilute 1 Litre of the pesticide with 100  Litres of Water before applying.

When to use the Pesticide?
  1. Generally, the ideal time for spraying is during 6 am to 8.30 am and between 4 pm and 6.30 pm.
  2. The pesticide has to be sprayed every 15 days or as required.
Which pests are controlled by the Pesticide?
  1. The pesticide is used in controlling insect pests and viral diseases (leaf curl and mosaic).

Pesticides - Fermented Castor Solution

As part of our Agriculture for Everybody blog series,  we are going to see Fermented Castor Solution.


Required Ingredients

Method of Preparation
  1. Crush the Castor Seeds until it become soft and the pulp is visible and mix it in the water.
  2. Keep this solution in a plastic drum for about 10 days undisturbed.
  3. The solution is ready to be used from the 11th day.
Method of Storage
  1. The pesticide should be kept in the shade and covered with a wire mesh or plastic mosquito net to prevent houseflies from laying eggs and the formation of maggots (worms) in the solution.  This is applicable during the preparation as well as during the shelf life of the pesticide as well.

How long can we store the Pesticide?
  1. The pesticide can be stored for 3 months time.

How to use the Pesticide?
  1. The mud pots has to be buried in the soil till the neck level at equal distance in the farm at different places.
  2. Pour 2 litres of the pesticide in the mud pot.
  3. Add water till the neck level of the pot.
  4. The odour of the pesticide will attract the pests and they will fall in the open pot.
Note:
  1. Collect and remove the dead pests floating in the pot every 2 days.
  2. Refill the pesticide in the pot along with the water once the contents of the pot decreases.

Which pests are controlled by the Pesticide?
  1. The pesticide is effective in controlling white grubs and rhinoceros beetle.
